Our mission is to amplify and accelerate positive ocean action in New Zealand. As an island nation with one of the largest and most significant ocean spaces in the world, we believe every New Zealander has a critical role to play in protecting and restoring it.

Live Ocean will support and invest in promising marine science, innovation, technology and marine conservation projects. We understand the power of local action. Our vision is for New Zealand to be a world leading champion in ocean health.

New Zealand should be a world leading champion of ocean health. It’s critical to support ocean science and innovation.

We support the call of the 2016 IUCN World Conservation Congress to protect 30% of the ocean by 2030.

We have a responsibility to future generations to meet the global targets we have committed to achieving.

To fish sustainably, both recreationally and commercially.

To improve fishing methods to strive for zero by-catch of seabirds and marine mammals.

To significantly reduce the impact of land-based activities on our coastal and marine areas.

To use less plastic, take personal responsibility and support a circular economy.

To cut greenhouse gas emissions as far and fast as possible.

As the guardians of the fourth largest marine space on the planet, we should be a global voice for the ocean.

We are home to some of the most pristine ocean sites on the planet, from the sub-tropical Kermadec Rangitāhua islands in the north to the sub-antarctic islands in the south.

Māori concepts of katiakitanga (guardianship) and the knowledge of mana whenua to protect and conserve natural resources will inform us as we look forward.

We have a responsibility to lead and win the battle against threats to ocean health.

As a country we need to wrap ourselves around a vision that ignites and unites us around our ocean.

It’s our aim to invest in and support promising people and projects that will move the needle on New Zealand’s leadership position.

We know it takes the right team to achieve a massive goal. We want Kiwis to come around this big, ambitious vision and put their shoulder to it. We also know having fun is an important part of any mission. Being an ocean lover isn’t enough anymore, we need to be ocean champions.
