OCEAN
CHAMPIONS

We are
ocean people

Ocean sports play a special role in unifying and connecting people around the urgent need to restore and protect our ocean. Aotearoa is a nation of sailors, surfers, kayakers and fishers. We are ocean people.

The ocean is an ecosystem. The better the life in it connects and works together, the more productive and vital it is. We work with other ocean champions who provide a powerful platform to share the message of the urgent need for restoration and protection of our ocean.

New Zealand SailGP Team

Live Ocean is the Race for the Future charity partner of the New Zealand SailGP Team. The kiwi team is led by Live Ocean founders Peter Burling and Blair Tuke. Along with the rest of the team they will use the power of sport to take the message of ocean restoration and protection to the world stage through adrenalin filled racing. The New Zealand SailGP Team became the country’s first sports team to strengthen its commitment to sustainability by signing the UN Sports for Climate Action Framework. By signing this agreement the team hopes to send a signal about the critical importance of climate action, particularly in the context of a healthy ocean.

Spirit of Adventure

Spirit of Adventure has taken young kiwis on life-changing voyages for nearly 50 years. As Spirit challenges our young people at sea, it understands the opportunity these voyages present, to look at and engage with the environments they encounter. The trainees see their role as guardians to our ocean; the aim is to inspire them to take this home and into their futures.
