OUR
PROJECTS

Teaming up to
join the race

We partner with promising people through projects with a focus on marine science, innovation and positive action. We will also inspire people to take ocean friendly behaviour for our ocean. Together we are joining the race to help protect and preserve the ocean – and your actions will help make a difference.

Hauraki Gulf – Below the Waterline

The Hauraki Gulf/Tikapa Moana is our only marine park, sprawling across 1.2 million hectares, it includes more than 50 islands. Below the waterline, the Hauraki Gulf and the life in it, urgently needs our attention. Its beauty hides an ecosystem in trouble. We want to take your eyes past the water’s edge, below the waterline. To see what’s really happening.

MAPPING THE SOUTHERN RIGHT WHALE

Live Ocean is helping fund important research by the University of Auckland into New Zealand’s southern right whale/tohorā. It’s considered a sentinel species for climate change. The population was decimated by whaling in the 18th century, and now this recovering species faces a new threat, the changing ocean.

SAVE THE ANTIPODEAN ALBATROSS

Live Ocean is raising funds and working with Southern Seabirds Solutions Trust to identify and accelerate positive action including satellite tracking, seabird smart fishing practices and innovation. Albatrosses and other seabirds are ship followers and are accidentally caught when longlines are being set by commercial fishing vessels.
