479 people Run4TheGulf at Round the Bays 2024

Run4TheGulf at Round the Bays 2024 on Sunday 3 March was a huge success!

On Sunday 3 March, 479 people gathered in Auckland to Run4TheGulf as part of team Live Ocean, taking part in New Zealand’s largest running event – the 2024 Southern Cross Round the Bays.

As the official charity partner for this year’s edition of the iconic fun run, Live Ocean Foundation took the opportunity to draw attention to the state of Tikapa Moana, the Hauraki Gulf and was delighted with the number of supporters willing to demonstrate their care for the Gulf and help raise awareness for the need to protect and restore this very special piece of the moana.

The event also provided an opportunity to raise funds and while the final tally is yet to come, Live Ocean Foundation is stoked to announce that the total amount raised through Run4TheGulf is shaping up to be more than $34,000, including a $25,000 cheque from event organisers stuff events. 100% of funds raised by Run4TheGulf team members will go to Live Ocean project partners doing vital marine conservation work in the Hauraki Gulf.

“A huge thank you from Live Ocean to everyone who stepped up and joined us for the 8.4km stretch around the waterfront. It was great to see so many of you before and after the run, and so good to see all the Run4TheGulf tops, Live Ocean flags and temporary tattoos being worn with pride on the course. Whether fast, slow or somewhere in between – every one of you that showed up helped us shine a spotlight on the need for action for the Gulf.” – Sally Paterson, Chief Executive
